Commercial Banks

The best rates. See the full bank comparison. Branches in major cities; bring your passport. Takes 10–15 minutes.

Licensed Money Changers

Faster than banks, rates are between airport and bank quality. Look for the "Authorised Money Changer" sign — unlicensed changers may shortchange you.

ATMs

Dispense rupees at the interbank mid-rate minus ~1.5–2.5% (Visa/Mastercard currency conversion). Add a Rs 500–750 ATM fee. Good for small amounts; not ideal for large sums.
